It’s been nearly 24 hours since two fatal shots rang out in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant Saturday, leaving NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu dead. Hours after the tragedy, Jaden Ramos, 13, posted a heartbreaking Facebook entry that paid homage to his father, calling him “the best father I could ask for.”

“Today I had to say bye to my father. He was their for me everyday of my life, he was the best father I could ask for,” Ramos said. “It's horrible that someone gets shot dead just for being a police officer. Everyone says they hate cops but they are the people that they call for help. I will always love you and I will never forget you. RIP Dad.”

Dozens of acquaintances have commented on the tragic loss of the police officer, and the post has been shared more than 7,500 times.

Rosie Orengo, a friend of Ramos, said he was an active member of the church and encouraged others.

"He was an amazing man. He was the best father and husband and friend," Orengo told Fox News. "Our peace is knowing that he's OK, and we'll see him in heaven."

Shooter Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, shot his former girlfriend in Baltimore Saturday, before traveling 190 miles to Brooklyn to kill two police officers.

“I’m putting wings on pigs today,” Brinsley said on Instagram two hours before the incident. “They take 1 of ours, let’s take 2 of theirs.” He then referenced the deaths of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.

The incident happened shortly after 2:47 p.m. Saturday after which Brinsley entered the Myrtle/Willoughby G train station and shot himself in the head. Brinsley was armed with a semi-automatic pistol he purchased in Florida and was allegedly visiting his daughter in Brooklyn, according to NBC News.
