A first look picture of Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” recently surfaced. The picture is actually a concept art that teases the actor’s costume. Few details about the character have been released online. The character is basically a villain in the comics, but he may have a different role in the upcoming film.

According to Comic Book Review, the upcoming issue of Empire magazine will include an article about “Spider-Man: Far from Home.” One image of Mysterio’s concept art and some details about the character have leaked online. In the picture, Gyllenhaal’s look was revealed, which apparently includes a beard. There is no fishbowl helmet, but the costume that includes a red cape has been teased.

The article doesn’t give away any details about Mysterio. It does, however, point out that leaked pictures from the production set have suggested that the villain will be seen either fighting alongside Spider-Man (Tom Holland) or fighting against him. If the two characters are indeed allies, the report noted that the wall-crawling superhero may not be in a position to trust a man who does tricks for a living.

According to Collider, Holland and Gyllenhaal shared some plot details of “Spider-Man: Far from Home” when they attended the Brazil Comic Con. Holland’s character is indeed teaming up with Mysterio, according to the actors, and the main villains in the film are the Elementals. Mysterio will reportedly be recruited by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in the film.

In the comics, the Elementals are four extradimensional humanoids, each controlling one of the elements on earth. Hellfire controls fire, Hydron controls water, Magnum controls earth, and Zephyr is the female elemental that controls air. It remains to be seen what the movie versions of these characters will be like.

While Mysterio and Spider-Man teaming up to take on these powerful forces sounds exciting, the report noted that there may be another plot that could unfold. Mysterio may turn on his ally at some point in the film, which may add another dimension to the conflict.

Before “Spider-Man: Far from Home” hits theaters, Marvel is releasing a two-part prelude comic book, Screen Rant reported. The comics will recap the events of the first film, in which the wall-crawling superhero fought against Vulture (Michael Keaton), and explain the events leading up to the upcoming film.

“Spider-Man: Far from Home” will be released on July 5, 2019.
