Sony Pictures Television Networks’ AXN just dropped the first official trailer for Stana Katic’s new series, “Absentia.”

The 36-second clip opens with some information regarding FBI agent Emily Byrne’s (Katic) past, family, duty and love life. After photos, records, her FBI ID card and wedding ring are shown, the clip cuts to Emily floating on water, seemingly lifeless. But after just a few seconds, Emily wakes up and panics when she realizes that she is trapped inside a glass box. The lead character will be forced to remember what happened to her to make sense of why she’s been kidnapped.

According to the official synopsis released by the network for “Absentia” (via TV Line), Emily disappears while hunting down Boston’s deadliest serial killers. She wakes up in a mysterious cabin six years later with no memory of what happened to her. When she finally gets out of the cabin, Emily will discover that her husband, played by Patrick Heusinger, has married another woman, and this woman is the one who is raising her son.

“Absentia” is expected to have a total of 10 episodes, and the series will premiere on AXN sometime in the fall. Katic’s thriller series has already secured outlets in Canada and several other countries. However, the people behind “Absentia” are still actively seeking a television network that would air its episodes in the United States.

Last month, “Absentia” was featured at the 57th Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The annual festival, which celebrates the very best of television, showcased “Absentia” as part of their attempt to access a large group of journalists and investors. In the past, TV series that were featured at the festival and that were also picked up by networks included “Chicago Med,” “Crossing Lines” and “Empire.”

In October 2016, “Absentia” received a straight-to-series order from Sony Pictures Television Networks’ AXN. Initially, there were rumors suggesting that Sony’s streaming service, Crackle, is eyeing to release all 10 episodes of the series. However, this was later on debunked.

Katic’s other credits include “Would Be Kings,” “For Lovers Only,” “Sister Cities,” “The Rendezvous,” “Quantum of Solace” and more.
