The first look picture of the Knights of Ren in “Star Wars: Episode 9” has been released, but one question still remains: do they use lightsabers like their leader Kylo Ren (Adam Driver)? According to a new theory, they do. The weapons will be something that the fans have never seen before.

The behind-the-scenes photo of the Knights of Ren that Vanity Fair released shows the costumes of the mysterious characters and the weapons they carry. The weapons include a Mandalorian axe, a club, blasters, and other melee weapons. But, will any of them use lightsabers?

Eagle-eyed may have noticed that all the weapons that Knights of Ren carry in the behind-the-scenes pictures are not just regular weapons. Each of these weapons has an electronic component to it, judging by the small red, glowing light buttons or bulbs in each of them.

At least one of the Knights of Ren will carry a regular lightsaber, which was revealed in the concept art of “The Force Awakens,” Screen Rant reported. The knight with the grid helmet and mask will carry a regular lightsaber, which he wears on the side of his belt, but it is not visible in the behind-the-scenes picture.

Why aren’t the other Knights of Ren using a lighsaber? That’s because the art of making a lighsaber was lost along with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), which makes the blue lightsaber that Rey (Daisy Ridley) now wields very valuable.

Kylo Ren has a lightsaber too, but it was not made under the guidance of an experienced Jedi Master. This explains why the beam of the weapon is unstable. The excessive energy of the lighsaber required Kylo Ren to make it a cross-guard weapon, to release the excessive energy.

The presence of the Mandalorian battle axe reveals that at least one of the Knights of Ren in “Star Wars: Episode 9” is a Mandalorian, Screen Rant reported. While the warrior race is known for using jet packs and blasters, there was one among them who became a Jedi and used a black lightsaber called the Darksaber. Will this ancient weapon make an appearance in the upcoming film?
