Despite Lucasfilm saying they’d pump the brakes on some of its “Star Wars” spinoffs following the disappointing box office numbers for “Solo,” recent announcement seems to indicate otherwise. The next trilogy of films after “Episode 9” has been confirmed to be the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss led series, a Cassian Andor TV series is in the works, and a second season of “The Mandalorian” may have already been greenlit.

And it is rumored another set of films could be on the way that will draw from one of the most beloved “Star Wars” games ever made.

First broken by Buzzfeed News, it is being reported that Laeta Kalogridis has been tapped to write a movie based on 2003’s “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.” Kalogridis most recently served as screenwriter for February's “Alita: Battle Angel”.

Her script would, allegedly, serve as the first for a potential trilogy based on the 2003 game and possibly its sequel, “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords.” This would also make Kalogridis the first woman fired to write a “Star Wars” script since "The Empire Strikes Back" in 1980.

The 2003 game centers on a war between the Old Republic and Darth Malak’s Sith Army thousands of years before the events of the films. In the game, players take on the role of an amnesiac soldier who discovers they have force abilities, becomes a Jedi, and then gathers a crew to take the fight to Malak and end the war.

If true, it does also raise questions about if this is a new, standalone trilogy or if this is what Benioff and Weiss’ film series will be.
