A 7-month-old infant succumbed to his injuries after being mauled by a stray dog at an apartment building in India. The deadly attack took place in the city of Noida, which is located just 15 miles from the national capital of New Delhi.

The infant was with the child's parents, who were working at a construction site in the apartment complex at the time.

The stray dog reportedly wandered inside the apartment complex around 4:30 p.m. Monday and mauled the baby. The attack was so vicious that the child's intestines were pulled out, as per News18.

The baby was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery, but died hours later.

"The child was mauled by a stray dog on Monday evening. He was admitted to a private hospital where doctors operated on him. Unfortunately, we lost the child late last night," Dharam Vir Yadav, a representative of the apartment complex's residents group told PTI, as quoted by the outlet.

"The child was in serious condition, his intestines were pulled out in the attack. He had to go through surgery," Yadav said, according to the Times of India.

Residents of the apartment complex were furious over the infant's death and complained about the numerous stray dogs in the area.

One resident in the building said several stray dogs are living in the basement.

"Notably, this is not the first incident of a stray dog attacking someone in society as it happens every 3-4 months. We have complained about this to the Noida authority ... but they did not take any action," the resident said.

Another resident, Vinod Sharma, said the dogs have been posing a threat to people, especially children. Sharma also blamed the stray dog problem on residents feeding the canines.

"People keep feeding these dogs. The dogs have become aggressive and there is an incident every two months. Our children play in the area. We keep flagging our worry but no action is ever taken," Sharma told NDTV.

Angered residents blamed the concerned authorities saying the stray dogs should have been sterilized and vaccinated. Following the infant's death, officials issued a statement and said the "menace" will be sorted.
