A substitute teacher was fired from a school in Vivian, Louisiana, for offering money to students in exchange for attacking a classmate. Aadrina Salean Smith, 24, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office said.

The victim was attacked on Aug. 23 at the North Caddo Elementary Middle School, where Smith was a substitute teacher for physical education, NBC News reported.

Smith is accused of offering to pay $5 to each student to "commit battery and bully a classmate" during their P.E. class, officials said in the statement.

The substitute teacher was captured on video talking to the students, and she even praised some of them for tackling the victim.

"Video of the incident shows Smith verbally communicating with five students and appeared to congratulate three who participated in the battery," the sheriff's office said.

While the injured student was lying on the floor of the gym, Smith did not move from her seat or offer any kind of help. She also did not report the incident to the concerned authorities, the sheriff's office said.

"The substitute teacher sat on the bleachers while the victim laid on the gym floor and later got up," the statement added.

Smith was booked into Caddo Correctional Center on five counts of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and malfeasance in office. Officials noted that she was also terminated by the Caddo Parish School District in light of the incident.

Caddo Parish Schools released a statement Tuesday following the teacher's arrest Monday. The statement said the principal notified authorities soon after finding out about the bullying incident.

"The Caddo Parish School Board expects employees to conduct themselves professionally and in the interest of students at all times," read the statement, as quoted by Shreveport Times. "Following an incident in August, an employee was believed to have acted inappropriately."

"The district immediately removed her from her duties and the principal of the school reported the incident to law enforcement," the statement continued. "Throughout the investigation, the district and school have fully cooperated with law enforcement."

The sheriff's office said the incident continues to be investigated and more arrests may follow.
