  • Tattoo artist Mike DeVries recalled inking Sylvester Stallone with a tattoo of Jennifer Flavin in 2007
  • DeVries said Stallone talked to him last year about possibly altering the tattoo to make Flavin look like Wonder Woman
  • The actor recently covered up the body art with a tribute to his late dog and "Rocky" co-star, Butkus

Sylvester Stallone wanted to alter his tattoo of his estranged wife Jennifer Flavin before she filed for divorce last month, according to the actor's tattoo artist.

Tattoo artist Mike DeVries told People that around a year ago, Stallone talked about making some changes to the ink of Flavin's face that the artist did on the actor's shoulder.

Stallone recently covered up the tattoo, which he got in 2007, with an ink of his late dog and "Rocky" co-star, Butkus. Days later, Flavin announced that she filed for divorce from the actor after 25 years of marriage.

"I already knew that he wanted to do something because last year, he emailed me, called me, and we discussed talking about making Jennifer Flavin into [Wonder Woman]," DeVries told the outlet of Stallone.

He explained to the actor that the yellow tiara Wonder Woman wears on her head wouldn't "work" over the darker portion of Flavin's hair in the tattoo.

"All of her hair would just shine through," the tattoo artist said, adding that he ultimately did not alter that specific tattoo.

According to DeVries, the "Samaritan" actor is "one of those guys who just knows what he wants" when it comes to body art.

When he did the ink of Flavin on the action star, the artist said Stallone was sure how he wanted it to be done.

"He wanted the colors brighter. 'Brighter, brighter. We got to get these colors brighter,'" DeVries shared.

He continued, "We decided on a specific image. And usually when you pick the image, you don't want to veer too far away from it ... So I remember getting done, I got the hair done. I'm starting to work on the face now. And I'm starting to work up. I get the chin, and I'm working on the lips, and I get the lips pretty much done."

However, at that point, Stallone reportedly made a request that was very specific. According to the artist, the "Rambo: Last Blood" star showed him magazine covers and asked him to make Flavin's lips look like those of the person or people in the images. It was not clear whose image he was taking inspiration from.

DeVries also told the outlet that the new tattoo covering the ink of Flavin's face "looks good."

The artist shared that he recently reached out to Stallone to ask if he wanted the tattoo of his late dog or any other ink to be fixed up but did not hear back from him.

Stallone previously told TMZ that his tattoo of Flavin was ruined while he was getting it freshened up, so he decided to cover it up with Butkus' image.

The 76-year-old star also addressed claims that a disagreement between him and Flavin over his new Rottweiler, Dwight, triggered other arguments that led to the divorce filing.

"We did not end the relationship on such a trivial argument," he told TMZ. "We just went in different directions. I have the highest respect for Jennifer. I will always love her. She's an amazing woman. She's the nicest human being I've ever met."

Meanwhile, Flavin told People last week that she is "sad" about their split but "will always cherish the more than 30-year relationship" they shared.

Stallone and Flavin share three daughters: Scarlet, 20, Sistine, 24, and Sophia, 25. Stallone is also a dad to son Seargeoh from his previous marriage to Sasha Czack. His oldest son Sage with Czack died in 2012.

In May, Stallone paid tribute to Flavin on Instagram for their 25th wedding anniversary. He shared a series of photos of them, and in the caption, he called her an "amazing wife."

"There are not enough words to describe what this incredibly selfless dedicated, patient woman has meant to our lives, and I only wish they could be another 25! Thank you sweetheart!" he wrote.
