Taron Egerton portrayed the iconic and legendary Elton John in the movie “Rocketman,” based on one of John’s famous songs, and it was hugely successful, earning $195 million worldwide with a $40 million budget. “Rocketman” earned rave reviews, and Egerton’s nearly uncanny resemblance and performance as the famous singer garnered him many different awards. Things weren’t always easy on set, however.

In an interview with Yahoo, Egerton discussed how things were initially a little off in the beginning.

"On the first day I felt like I had to be Elton John in everything he is," Egerton said. However, by the end of the day, he felt a little differently: "At the end of the first day of shooting, I was convinced it was going to be a car crash.”

Egerton said that on his way home, he had a “little freak-out in the car.”

The “Rocketman” and “Kingsman” star said he was imagining scenarios where everything failed and everyone ended up hating it. He was afraid he’d end up as the guy who thought he could play John but ends up failing. Playing the iconic singer is especially tough for him since John is immensely talented and has rockstar levels of energy while expertly playing the piano and singing exceptionally well. It was a massive undertaking for the young actor.

"You just don't know. You're only talking to people who are a part of it. You're only talking to people who are connected to the project,” Egerton said about his panic moments on and off set.

There is a lot of Oscar buzz floating around for Egerton for the role of Elton John. Previously, Tom Hardy had signed on to play the part but was recast.
