A Texas woman was accused of choking a 1-year-old baby who was under her care at her unlicensed daycare facility.

According to the Conroe Police Department, a woman picked up her 5-year-old sister and 1-year-old daughter from Andrea Sanchez’s daycare on Feb 28. The 5-year-old told the woman at the time that Sanchez chocked her baby while other children were trying to sleep. The woman filed a complaint with the police following which an investigation was launched. Conroe police and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services conducted the probe.

The mother took her baby to the hospital where medical records noted “concern for non-accidental trauma while in the care of residential caregiver (Sanchez),” which was consistent with possible choking.

While interviewing the 5-year-old girl, she demonstrated a choking motion and said Sanchez was screaming “Shut up!”

Medical records revealed to investigators “multiple non-blanching, purple/red colored pinpoint or small circular red marks noted to chest wall and right shoulder,” according to court documents.

Sanchez, however, denied the allegations, telling investigators she was only trying to lift the 1-year-old’s “fat neck...trying to clean her,” court documents reveal.

According to reports late Thursday, Sanchez was arrested and charged with felony injury to a child but has since posted her $60,000 bond and left custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 22.

Conroe Police are asking anyone who may have more information for this investigation to contact Detective J. McGrew at 936-522-3591.

In another incident, a daycare provider was charged with child abuse Tuesday (June 2) for assaulting an infant boy in Carpio, North Dakota. The accused, identified as 34-year-old Sarah Babinchak, the operator of Country Steps Daycare, violently assaulted a 5-month-old baby boy. According to the police, she allegedly got mad at the baby as she could not get him to burp and threw him on the floor. The incident took place in December 2019.

The child was taken to a hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull, bleeding in the brain, and bruises. According to physicians, the child’s injuries were not caused by a sudden fall or a drop.
