  • Tom Holland was offered the role of Fred Astaire in an upcoming biopic
  • Film producer Amy Pascal had her eye only on Holland for the iconic role
  • The actor said the script for the project came in a week ago, but he has yet to read it

Tom Holland is taking a break from Spidey duties after “Spider-Man: No Way Home” as he is set to take on another challenging role in an upcoming Fred Astaire biopic.

While promoting his latest outing as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in London, the 25-year-old actor disclosed to the Associated Press that he will be next seen playing the iconic actor-singer-dancer in an upcoming Sony project.

“I will be playing Fred Astaire,” Holland told the news agency at the London premiere of “No Way Home.”

The actor said that the role was personally offered to him by former Sony chief Amy Pascal, though the call came at an awkward time.

“She FaceTimed me earlier. I was in a bath,” Holland said while grinning. “And we had a lovely FaceTime.”

Holland also shared that the script for the project “came in a week ago.” However, they have not handed it to him, so he has yet to read the material.

It is still unclear who wrote the script for the biopic, but The Hollywood Reporter said that Pascal only had her eye on Holland for the role ever since the project was pitched.

“There are very few actors working now who are versatile in the way that he is. And he’s the hardest-working person that I know,” Pascal told GQ of Holland last month.

Though Holland is focusing on his acting career at present, he is no stranger to musical theater. He even showed off his dancing skills when he performed a “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Umbrella” mashup for “Lip Sync Battle” in 2017.

Holland’s new project wouldn’t be the only one to chronicle the late Hollywood legend’s life. Amazon Studios is currently producing a biopic with Jamie Bell as Astaire and Margaret Qualley as Ginger Rogers, Vulture reported.

Meanwhile, before Holland entertains the audience with his dancing skills in the biopic, fans will first see him in another action-packed film. The big-screen adaptation of the “Uncharted” PlayStation franchise where he stars as Nathan Drake is set to hit theaters in February 2022.
