Tori Spelling recently opened up about her and Dean McDermott’s youngest child, Beau McDermott.

The 9-month-old is being dubbed by his mom as a “symbol” for the new phase of Spelling’s relationship with her husband. “I feel like Beau is really the pillar of the rebirth of our relationship because our relationship had to crumble for it to be rebuilt and it was really important that we just start it over,” she told People.

Spelling also revealed that Beau is the first baby out of their five kids that is being raised in a communicative way. Seven years ago, Spelling was asked what it’s like being married, and she would always say that it’s easy. But 11 years later, she came to realize that it requires a lot of work.

“It takes work and I took that for granted – I think we both did. We thought, ‘Oh, our relationship just works,’ and the truth is no relationship just works,” she said.

The reality TV stars were also involved in a cheating scandal after Spelling exposed her husband’s infidelity. While speaking with Khloe Kardashian on “Kocktails With Khloe” last year, Spelling admitted that McDermott’s cheating changed everything for them. However, she added that the changes have been for the better.

“Because we had to start over… The relationship was just broken into a million pieces,” she said. And despite McDermott’s infidelities, Spelling decided to stick around.

“There’s people who are like, ‘Wow that’s so great you stuck by him and worked it through,’ and there’s other people who are like, ‘He’s a cheater and I can’t believe you wouldn’t leave him.’ Others said, ‘Oh, it’s because of the children.’ I did have to account for my children, of course, but I also had to account for the love that I had for this man and the relationship that we had and the life we had together,” she explained.

A year later, Spelling said that she feels she’s found her voice in their relationship. “It was really empowering for me because my whole life I grew up and never talked about my feelings… so I carried that into my relationship,” she said.
