A Hill/HarrisX survey released Friday showed Trump with 56% disapproval and 44% approval, while the right-leaning Rasmussen Reports' poll showed Trump with 52% disapproval and 46% approval.

A Politico/Morning Consult survey from earlier in the week showed Trump with 56% disapproval and 42% approval.

Coronavirus cases are down across most of the U.S. but the country is still in a delicate spot. Universities across the nation have reported COVID-19 cases, forcing colleges to switch to remote learning.

Trump has frequently pushed for schools and universities to reopen in the fall. An explosion of cases in the fall could negatively impact Trump’s approval ratings and reelection chances.

Meanwhile, protests in Kenosha turned violent this week. Trump has frequently promoted a “law and order” message, but the approach could backfire. Trump’s response to the protests after the death of George Floyd earlier this year caused controversy, with multiple polls showing Americans disapprove of his approach to race relations.

Recent general election polls show Democratic nominee Joe Biden with a strong lead over Trump in the general election. It's unclear if support grew for Trump after the Republican National Convention.

An Economist/YouGov poll released Wednesday showed Biden leading Trump by 9 points in the general election, 50% to 41%.
