Two separate incidents of accidental shootings by children turned fatal leading to the tragic deaths of a 4-year-old girl and a teenager.

A 9-year-old kid unintentionally shot and killed a 15-year-old girl in Maryland while he was playing with a gun and accidentally fired it, Baltimore police said.

The victim of the fatal tragedy was identified as Nykayia Strawder, NBC News reported. Both the boy and Strawder were on a porch in the city's Edmondson Village district at the time of the shooting, which transpired at around 8 p.m Saturday. There were several other neighborhood children on the porch but were unharmed, according to People.

"Investigators spoke to several witnesses at the scene who informed them that the 9-year-old male was playing with a loaded handgun when it accidentally discharged, striking the 15-year-old in the head," Baltimore Police told People. "The 9-year-old then dropped the gun and fled the location."

Strawder was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared her dead, CBS news reported. She was the fifth child to be fatally shot in Edmondson Village over the course of the past year.

Donyette McCray, Strawder's great aunt, told CBS News that there was friction between the boy and Strawder's brother before the shooting. He must take responsibility for his conduct, McCray said, "I don't have my baby. She will never, ever be back."

Police claimed that the boy's aunt owned the gun. She is an armed security guard. The boy cannot be charged with a crime, according to state law, and the investigation is still underway, according to a statement by the police.

In another inadvertent shooting involving a handgun, a mother in Georgia has been charged with child cruelty after her 4-year-old daughter discovered a loaded revolver in a car's backseat and accidentally shot herself Sunday night, according to authorities, CNN reported.

According to a news release from the police, the incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. on Interstate highway-85 heading north near North Druid Hills Road in DeKalb County. When police reached the scene, they found 4-year-old Kendal Lewis dead in the backseat from "an apparent gunshot wound," Miami Herald reported.

The child's mother, Kaelin Lewis, was on the wheel when her daughter found the gun. Kaelin was detained at the DeKalb County prison and is accused of second-degree child cruelty, CNN reported.
