Tyler Perry revealed why he keeps his 7-year-old son named Aman away from the spotlight. The 52-year-old actor noted that his son is not famous and he wants him to live a normal life.

"Because these people are not famous. My son's not famous," Perry told AARP in an interview published Tuesday. "I want him to have as normal a life as he can."

The actor explained that he wants his son to learn how it feels to have his own life. Perry noted that he doesn’t want him to get under pressure because he has a famous father.

"I want him to know what it's like to have his own name and his own life and not have the pressure of trying to live up to whatever or whoever your father was," he added.

Aside from sharing his views on keeping a private life for Aman, the actor also opened up about his former partner, Gelila Bekele with whom he shares Aman. "She’s an incredible mother," Perry said. The former couple broke up in December 2020.

When Perry was asked about how he protects his child being a Black man and what he teaches him about becoming a man, the actor disclosed that he hasn’t "had the conversation with Aman because he’s only 7."

"I want to hold out as long as I can," he explained. "I don’t want to tell him that there are people who will judge him because of the color of his skin, because right now he’s in a school with every race, and all these kids are in their purest form."

The actor shared that whenever Aman talks about his friends, he never describes them by their race. Perry further added that he wants his son to have this innocence and the day he loses that, will be a sad day for him.

"I know it’s coming, though, because he’s already asking some really tough questions," he added. "What I want him to be, more than anything, is somebody who sees injustice, speaks out against it and effects change."

On the work front, Perry was last seen in the movie, "A Madea Homecoming," which was dropped on Feb. 25, earlier this year. He will lend his voice to the animated movie, "PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie," which is slated to release on Oct. 13, 2023.
