Vampire Diaries 710
Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will experience the Civil War again in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7, episode 10. CW

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 will finally come back this month, but will the Salvatore brothers return too? Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) were both stabbed with the Phoenix Stone sword last year, and that means their souls will be sent to into the Stone and experience their own personal hell. However, it seems like only one brother will be the main focus in the midseason premiere.

“Damon awakens to find himself trapped inside the Phoenix Stone, tormented by a traumatic experience from his time in the Civil War and forced to face his darkest demon in order to get out,” the episode 10 synopsis reveals.

Damon is probably the "Vampire Diaries” character with the most personal demons, which might make it even more difficult to get him out of the Stone. Executive producer Caroline Dries already revealed that audiences will watch the veteran stuck in the Phoenix Stone for at least most of the midseason premiere, titled “Hell is Other People.”

“The episode plunges the audience head first into a not-so-typical Damon mess. It’s a grueling, frustrating, at times even a little hilarious examination of one of our favorite and most damaged characters,” Dries told Entertainment Weekly. “Turns out that in the murk of Damon Salvatore’s psyche, redemption isn’t easy to find.”

That won’t stop his friends from trying. “On the outside, Bonnie (Kat Graham) is in a race against the clock to get Damon out before the effects of the Phoenix Stone take over and leave him changed forever,” the synopsis warns. Though Julian (Todd Lasance) seemed to return from his personal hell unchanged, the soul that Alaric (Matt Davis) retrieved from the Stone and put in Jo's (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) body had no memory of her life as a vampire. Bonnie probably wants to avoid bringing an amnesiac back from the stone.

So, where is Stefan in all of this? Well, he isn’t mentioned, but fans know he will definitely get out of the Phoenix Stone in time for the “Vampire Diaries”/ “Originals” crossover. However, in the promo video for the midseason premiere, it looks like Julian might want to destroy his body.
