After Adam Levine’s shocking exit from “The Voice,” insiders revealed the Maroon 5 frontman will probably never return to the NBC singing competition.

Days after “The Voice” Season 16 finale, NBC confirmed the “Songs About Jane” artist would not appear as a judge in the upcoming season of the series. Although the split between Levine and the show appeared to be amicable, a production source claimed the singer caused tension behind the scenes.

“He has made it clear he is not going to return,” the insider allegedly told RadarOnline.

The supposed source claimed Levine was “a cry baby” on set and felt “pushed out” after EGOT winner John Legend joined the judges’ panel. “Adam was just fed up and acting like a total diva,” the source explained.

A different insider told Us Weekly Levine has been unhappy with the show for several seasons. “Things have been very tense between the judges and everything regarding upfronts was demonstrative of this. It was his choice to go, but no one was begging him to stay,” the insider revealed.

While some fans are sad to see Levine leave, “The Voice” Season 17 judge, Kelly Clarkson understands why the 40-year-old left the show. “It was kind of a shocking thing,” she told Extra.

“But I kind of get it. He’s been doing it for eight years — that’s a long time. He’s got a couple kids. Still has a career. Still touring. It’s a very rigorous schedule fitting everything in.”

While Clarkson admits she will miss her former co-worker, she supports his decision to do what’s best for his family. “It’ll be weird going to work. ‘Where’s Adam?’ But I totally get how busy it is trying to fit everything in plus having a family,” she said.

Gwen Stefani is expected to replace Adam Levine on the judges’ panel when “The Voice” Season 17 premieres in the fall.
