Tech Rax, a YouTube channel which makes videos about destroying smartphones, made an interesting one on Tuesday. In the video, both the newly released iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 are put in a blender.

These kinds of durability tests determine which phone would last long during regular wear and tear and even other issues which emerge when phones are dropped or scratched.

In the video, both phones are put into a powerful blender as the YouTuber tries to grind them to dust — how long a phone lasts determines the durability of the form factor. While both the iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 are premium phones, the fragility factor is expected to be higher with the iPhone 8 since it has a glass form factor — both the front and back are made of glass. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is a blend of metal and glass — although the front is entirely covered by edge-to-edge glass.

The video validates this hypothesis. In the video, the iPhone 8 is literally ground to dust in 20 seconds, when it is put close to the blade of the grinder. But despite running the grinder for the same amount of time and at the same power, the Galaxy S8 is able to take more of a beating — basically, the rear of the handset opens up and the battery is ground, but most of the frame survives, indicating that in terms of durability, the Samsung Galaxy S8 easily trumps the Apple iPhone 8. Also, it proves that metal phones are more durable than glass phones.

So for rough usage, the Galaxy S8 might be a better choice among the two.

Generally speaking, it is always better to protect your phone with a case or even tempered glass. In case you plan on buying the Apple iPhone 8, it would be better if you are able to secure tempered glass for both the front and back and if you want to secure the phone even further, encase it in a smartphone case.

As a warning, TechRax says that the smoke that arose out of the blender after the test was “not pleasant.”

Many viewers have also left some interesting comments below the video.

“Oops I dropped my phone inside the blender.. omg I turned it on accidentally,” a user going by the name Boney Caldwell stated in one comment, while a user called Isaiah Bugayong stated, “Try to blend 3310 next sir. RIP to ur blender.” Another one, Seth Thorne said, “How can you do this? I am unable to afford an iPhone 5s but you are blending an iPhone 8. I hate life.”
