Brockport police officers had an encounter with a cookie-stealing squirrel inside a home Friday. Police bodycam video captured the incident when a squirrel charged at officers.

Brockport Police Department wrote in a Facebook post that its officers responded to a call about a squirrel that had broken into a house and was reportedly eating cookies in the kitchen.

At least one officer was wearing a body camera when they came to the house to tackle the squirrel. The video shows the officer walking into the kitchen and a squirrel moving around the walls and counters. The animal crashed into a few dishes. The squirrel eventually lunged at the officer as it headed through a doorway.

The incident resulted in everyone in the room bursting into laughter. Police eventually caught the little intruder and later released it without injury. ​

​The video posted by the police department had been viewed more than 89,000 times by the time this story was published. The post also had nearly 500 likes and more than 1,500 shares. The post was titled: "Squirrel starts New Year's party early."

"On December 29th, 2017 Brockport Police were called to a residence for a squirrel that had broken into the house, reportedly eating cookies in the kitchen. Officers Sime and Dawson arrived on scene but were not at all expecting the warm welcome they would receive from the squirrel. The squirrel was ultimately captured by officers and released without injury. The homeowner was very relieved that their uninvited guest was set free," the Facebook post read.
