Twitter comes for everybody at some point, whether it’s your circle of friends roasting you for a bad tweet or a subsection of the site turning you into a popular meme. Bow Wow learned that the hard way on Tuesday when a member of the site called him out for lying about his lavish lifestyle on social media.

It all started when the rapper turned TV host, born Shad Moss, posted a photo of a private jet on Instagram. He alluded to the fact that he was boarding the aircraft in question for the “Growing Up Hip Hop” press tour. A fan exposed him, snapping a photo of him flying coach and sharing it side-by-side with the one Bow Wow posted on Instagram.

The quick-moving social media site took the tweet and ran with it, thus giving way to the Bow Wow Challenge. Users shared photos that weren’t quite what they seemed, mocking Bow Wow’s private jet post. Thousands of posts populated Twitter under the hashtag, with some garnering major laughs (and, of course, retweets).

Bow Wow’s been focused on preparing for the “Growing Up Hip Hop” premiere, but found time to clap back at haters on social media. In the comments section of a recently posted photo of himself, Bow Wow claimed the photo of him flying coach was “an old picture,” according to a screen grab posted on The Shade Room’s Instagram. He then took a few gratuitous jabs at people participating in the challenge and commenting on his photos, joking that they “still can’t afford a buddy pass on spirit airlines.”

The “Big Dreams” rapper’s no stranger to controversy. In July 2016, he found himself under fire from all directions because of controversial political and racial comments he made. An argument about voting turned into something much bigger when Bow Wow seemingly diminished the plight of his black ancestors because of his mixed background.

“Man i only believe what the eyes see. Im mixed. I dont know what my ancestors was doing. I only know what i see...i seen SELMA. Was i related to anyone no. Im saying my moss side of my family is NOT BLACK. Heritage different,” he said in response to a Twitter user attempting to vote by reminding him that many black people died for that right.

The comments were taken out of context, leading some to believe he said he wasn’t black. Bow Wow later clarified, assured Twitter followers and critics that’s not what he mean. He added that he wasn’t sure how the conversation got so off track.

This isn’t the first time a famous person has found themselves the subject of a meme. In December 2016, the Soulja Boy Challenge took over Twitter and Instagram. The meme was created after a strange interview with the “Kiss Me Through The Phone” rapper and Vlad TV, in which he recounted a sensationalized story of a home invasion.

Joe Budden, Mike Epps and a ton of other social media users began sharing their own over-the-top tales on social media. The clips populated both sites under the #SoujaBoyChallenge tag. Soulja Boy did not respond to the meme.
