"Final Fantasy 16," the next installment in one of the longest-running video game series, finally has a release date for June 22.

Bloomberg reports it was in development for four years.

Square Enix already unveiled the Collector's Edition for "Final Fantasy 16," and it's set to retail at $349.99, shipping cost not included. There's another special edition along with a standard edition available solely for PS5 consoles. The Collector's Edition comes with a set of pre-order bonuses along with physical and digital exclusives, including a steelbook case, statues and digital artbooks.

Along with the different editions, there are also more than a few details revealed about the title.

Naoki Yoshida was confirmed as the producer in 2020 and he revealed in a PlayStation blog that Hiroshi Takai is on board as the game's director.

"The exclusive footage, comprised of both battles and cutscenes running in real-time, represents but a fraction of what our team has accomplished since the start of development on this, an all-new Final Fantasy game," wrote Yoshida. " In that span, the team's size has grown from a handful of core members to a full-fledged unit that continues to polish and build upon what they have created so far, all to provide players an experience unmatched in terms of story and gameplay."

That story is set in the world of Valisthea ruled by six nations through the use of magic. There are powerful entities that are similar to magical creatures that debuted in previous "Final Fantasy" titles and will seem familiar to most players. While there's that familiarity, this installment is a new story within a familiar universe, returning to the medieval fantasy style of the older games instead of the more futuristic settings of the more recent titles. All new characters are set to be introduced from the playable Clive to the AI-controlled party characters.

There will also be two separate modes for the game along with more detailed skill trees for players to adapt to their playing style. The two-story modes take the place of standard difficulty settings for players to customize their experience. There's the Action Focus Mode and the Story Focus Mode. The latter was developed with the option of changing combat settings and including AI-controlled accessories to make the game easier. Really, it acts as a sort of safety net for newer players or players who want to focus on the story.

While the title is confirmed for PS5, there is still the possibility of the title becoming available down the line for other consoles.
