KEY POINTS

  • Four cars will be introduced in the new update of "Fortnite" called "Joy Ride"
  • Cars will have health and require gas to drive
  • As long as the car isn't booted, players can drive them to navigate the map
  • Damaged cars can be healed using campfires

It's no secret that the 13.40 update of “Fortnite” will introduce a handful of cars as part of their evolving gameplay after filling the map with water in Chapter 2 of Season 3. As its name suggests, “Joy Ride” is Epic Games' new take on its previous report that new maps will be uncovered as soon as the water level starts to drop.

Joy Ride” will have players drive four vehicles that will make map navigation easier and faster. There's the Islander Prevalent pickup, Victory Motors Whiplash, OG Bear pickup truck and the Titano Mudflap six-wheeler. The cars will drive just like any other motor vehicle, said Engadget. Players will need to gas the cars “periodically” or they will have to carry extra gas cans to allow for more cruise control.

“As long as the car isn't booted, the keys are already in the ignition,” said Fortnite's dev team in a blog spot. At this point, “Fortnite” veterans will know that not everything on the map will go their way. Cars will have “different amounts of health” too, said Kotaku. Author Riley MacLeod, who played the new update, said he drove A Creative and noticed that it had 1,200 health, while the OG pickup had 1,000. A “more standard” car on the other hand will make for 800 health.

In addition, MacLeod pointed out that the cars will take on damage, but they can be healed by campfires. Each will drive differently on different terrains, while not all will have a boost to dramatically speed up navigation.

Kotaku also echoed Engadget's report that cars need gas to move. Players can find gas stations scattered across the map to fill them, but they're reminded that gas pumps are explosive. Radio stations, just like the ones in “Grand Theft Auto” and “Saints Row.” Stations can be changed and turned off should players want to concentrate on gunfire instead of listening to the beats of Juic and 21 Savage & J. Cole.

Cars aren't the first vehicles to be driven by players in the Fortnite map. Golf carts, robots, planes, quad bikes and the current shark provide a fast and reliable method of transportation.
