KEY POINTS

  • Trump sends 105 tweets on Sunday
  • Subjects range from NATO to the border wall
  • Majority of tweets focus on impeachment process

President Donald Trump spent most of Sunday on Twitter, unleashing a tirade on political opponents and media outlets and harping on his pet themes such as the border wall, betraying a hint of unease ahead of the most crucial week of the impeachment procedure in the House of Representatives.

The 105 tweets and retweets were unusual even for Trump's prolific standards. He tweeted his thoughts on a number of issues including the border wall, North Korea, NATO, food assistance and not surprisingly, the impeachment process. He also retweeted liberally from conservative news outlets and commentators including Daily Caller, Wall Street Journal and Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo.

With the House of Representatives dropping enough hints to suggest that the articles of impeachment may be presented before the weekend, the embattled president may be demonstrating a nervous uncertainty about his fate. His impeachment-related tweets focused on attacking Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for their roles in the impeachment inquiry as well as accusing Democrats of ignoring his due process rights.

Trump also continued to push his charge that Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden and 2020 hopeful, had participated in corruption in Ukraine.

The president also weighed in on a report due out this week based on an independent investigation into the legality of the FBI investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election as ordered by U.S. Attorney General William Barr.

Insiders suggested that this report is expected to negate Trump's claim that the investigation by FBI special council Robert Mueller was inappropriate.

Trump also blasted the media over what he claimed was a misrepresentation of his time at the recent NATO conference in London.

Trump called Fox News “pathetic” for having Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a 2020 Democratic nominee hopeful who has since dropped out of the race, on air.

Trump also tweeted about one of his campaign cornerstone promises, the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Some commentators have suggested Trump's overtime on Twitter demonstrates nervousness ahead of the most important week in the ongoing impeachment process.
