“The Handmaid’s Tale” fans typically expect a new season in the spring or summer, but that’s not the case in 2020. Hulu has confirmed the dystopian drama will not return until 2021.

The news of next year’s premiere came in a “Handmaid’s Tale” teaser trailer that debuted Wednesday. Hulu included some new footage from Season 4, which highlights June’s (Elisabeth Moss) revolution in Gilead. Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) says, “I’ve never allowed myself to see her for what she clearly is—beyond redemption.”

“Next year,” title cards say. “Unite and fight.”

Meanwhile, Hulu captioned the video, “ Change never comes easy. Blessed be the squad.”

The tagline “Blessed be the squad” is also said in the video. It indicates that June truly isn’t a one-woman revolution. She started working with lots of women throughout Gilead and they’ll continue to help her free the people.

Commander Lawrence actor Bradley Whitford confirmed that Season 4 was in the middle of filming when the pandemic shut down production.

“It was funny, I was in my Lawrence getup and reading on my phone for the first time about making sure you wash your hands, and whatever you do, don’t touch your face,” he recalled to TheWrap earlier this month. “And while I was reading it, three different people touched my face, as they do on sets.”

However, he emphasized that he and star Elisabeth Moss are anxious to get back to telling the story. “And I’ve talked to Lizzie (Elisabeth Moss) and we just want to get back,” he added. “I don’t think Lizzie or I are people who have taken our opportunities for granted. So the idea of being able to walk onto that set and have that writing with those actors and actually be together and look into Lizzie’s eyes and find out where this weird scene goes is something I think we’re all starving for.”

“The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 4 will also return to the first season’s 10-episode arc, down from 13 installments. That was determined before the health crisis.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 4 returns to Hulu in 2021.
