School is back in session when “Sex Education” drops its second season on Jan. 17. Netflix made the announcement early this week on its Twitter page saying, “Get in losers, the new term is starting.”

Asa Butterfield and Gillian Anderson will make their return in the second season of the Netflix coming-of-age comedy series, according to Deadline. The series initially followed Butterfield’s Otis Milburn, as he got curious about sex through his mother Jean (Anderson), a sex therapist. With all the knowledge from his mother’s sessions, Milburn started a sex advice business at his school to help his classmates with their sexual troubles. The season ended with Milburn and Ola (Patricia Allison) starting a relationship just as Maeve (Emma Mackey) realized her feelings for Milburn.

The new season will follow Milburn as he and Ola take their new romance to the next level while he also deals with his strained relationship with Maeve. On top of that, Milburn gets into an awkward situation as he tries to accept his mother Jean’s (Anderson) new relationship with Ola’s father Jakob (Mikael Persbrandt). Expect to see other characters get some spotlight as we explore the lives of some of Moordale Secondary School’s students.

Created and written by Laurie Nunn, the 8-episode first season gained critical praise from the media and hit 40 million views since it’s release on Netflix. With its success, “Sex Education” was picked up for another season earlier this year. Filming for season two took place between May and September 2019. The upcoming installment will have eight episodes like the previous season.
