‘Young Sheldon’
How will Sheldon (Iain Armitage) bond with his grandmother, Meemaw (Annie Potts) in “Young Sheldon” Season 1, episode 2? CBS

“Young Sheldon” Season 1 did not air a new episode on Monday night as the series has started its month-long hiatus. The Iain Armitage-starrer is expected to return to CBS on Nov. 2.

The premiere episode of the series received impressive ratings together with its lead-in, “Big Bang Theory” Season 11. According to TV by the Numbers, the prequel garnered approximately 17 million viewers and a 3.8 demo rating among audiences aged 18 to 49. “Young Sheldon” also became the highest-rated series premiere on broadcast since “Empire” in 2015. “Big Bang Theory” also earned its highest ratings in 21 months.

“Young Sheldon” Season 1, episode 1 introduced 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, who is living in east Texas with his family in 1989. The very smart and opinionated kid got accelerated from third grade to high school and had to adapt to this big change in the best way he could.

While at home, it was revealed that Sheldon has a wonderful relationship with his mom, Mary (Zoe Perry). She supported her son in every single thing he wanted to do, including wearing a bow tie to his first day of high school. But the same cannot be said of Sheldon’s relationship with his dad, George (Lance Barber).

The two are not close, and George is not one to tolerate his son’s quirks because he doesn’t want him to become an outcast. He and his older son, Georgie (Montana Jordan), bond over their love for football. Sheldon and his older brother are not very close either. In fact, Georgie dreaded their first day in high school because a lot of his friends think that Sheldon is weird.

Sheldon’s twin sister, Missy (Raegan Revord), was also introduced in the series. She is still in third grade and is pleased not to be in the same level as her brother.

But there’s still one character who has not been introduced in “Young Sheldon,” Meemaw (Annie Potts). The character will first appear in episode 2, titled “Rockets, Communists, and the Dewey Decimal System.” In “Big Bang Theory,” Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) Meemaw is played by June Squibb.

“Young Sheldon” Season 1 will return to CBS on Nov. 2 at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
