Burger King is expanding its venture into plant-based meat and is testing a meatless version of its Original Chicken Sandwich.

Dubbed the Impossible Original Chick'n Sandwich, Burger King's new test item will be available only at restaurants in the Cincinnati, Ohio area starting Monday, QSR reported.

Available only for a limited time, the Impossible Original Chick'n Sandwich is made just like the original chicken sandwich on Burger King's menu, featuring a seasoned plant-based chicken patty, shredded lettuce, and mayonnaise on a toasted sesame seed bun, the news outlet said.

The chicken sandwich will be cooked in the same fryer as chicken patties, so it is not considered a vegan option – a detail that was noted by Burger King after it was heavily criticized for making its meatless version of the Whopper on the same grill as its beef patties.

When Burger King launched the Impossible Whopper in 2019, a lawsuit followed, claiming that the chain deceived vegans, vegetarians, and other customers into thinking the meatless burger was cooked on a separate grill. The lawsuit was dismissed in 2020, as a Florida judge ruled that "Burger King promised a non-meat patty and delivered," Reuters reported.

Burger King, which also tested a plant-based version of its chicken nuggets in 2021, isn't the only fast-food restaurant chain diving into the plant-based meat craze, as several companies have tested and added meatless options on their menu.

McDonald's recently concluded a test of the McPlant – a plant-based burger – with underwhelming results, analysts have claimed. McDonald's said the test concluded as planned, according to the Washington Post.

The growing plant-based meat market is expected to reach $24.8 billion globally by 2030, according to Grand View Research, as reported by Yahoo Finance.
