“Outlander” actor Sam Heughan is about to use his charms to play another leading man in his upcoming role as Hollywood icon Paul Newman. The film is a biopic that will focus on the relationship between author Roald Dahl and his wife, actress Patricia Neal.

Deadline first shared the news of Heughan’s casting, which the actor also shared on Twitter on Tuesday. In his tweet, he expressed his excitement taking on the role of the late legendary actor. “So excited to share this! Lucky to be part of this beautiful movie,” the Scottish native said. “Paul Newman was immensely talented, generous and an American icon. So fortunate.”

Heughan will be sharing the screen with Hugh Bonneville and Keeley Hawes, who are both playing Dahl and Neal, respectively.

The untitled biopic takes place in the early 1960s, where audiences will follow Dahl’s beginnings as a writer while Neal tries to make a comeback in Hollywood. John Hay will be directing the feature, which is based on the book “An Unquiet Life” by Stephen Michael Shearer. The book makes an account of the tumultuous marriage between the renowned writer and the famous actress as they try to raise a family in the English countryside with their relationship constantly testing them. Newman shared the screen with Neal in their 1963 film “Hud,” which earned both of them an Oscar nomination as well as a win for Neal.

Newman’s career spanned several decades, winning countless awards for his various performances along the way. His most notable films include “The Hustler,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” and “The Verdict.”

Heughan can be seen in the Starz series “Outlander,” which is about to air its fifth season in February. The actor’s other upcoming projects include an adaptation of the comic book “Bloodshot” starring Vin Diesel and the action thriller “SAS: Red Notice.”
