Veterans Day might’ve been yesterday, but the federal holiday’s also observed today, and as a result, Fox’s “The Resident” won't be airing a new episode tonight.

The medical drama’s well into its second season, but it’s decided to take a short break for the holiday. It’ll return next Monday, Nov. 19, with Season 2, episode 8. Titled “Heart in a Box,” fans will see the relationships between characters grow in different ways.

“Conrad [Matt Czuchry] goes head-to-head with Bell [Bruce Greenwood] after he recommends one of Julian's [Jenna Dewan] risky medical devices to Zoey [Daniella Alonso], who's already lost one son and is back in the hospital with the other,” the synopsis teases about what else happens in the episode. “Nic [Emily VanCamp] fears that Conrad may be getting overly attached to his patient. Meanwhile, Mina [Shaunette Renée Wilson] and Austin [Malcolm-Jamal Warner] grow closer while working on a difficult heart transplant. Devon [Manish Dayal] embarks on a very difficult day.”

As if all of that wasn’t enough for one episode, Dr. Lane Hunter (Melina Kanakaredes) will be making an appearance. In the episode promo, Bell is seen visiting Hunter in prison, where she tells him, “You betrayed me to save your own skin.” He says that he did it for her, not for himself, but doesn’t explain what he means by that in the trailer.

Before that, everyone will have to get through a Monday without a fresh showing. Instead of a new episode tonight, a rerun of “The Resident” will air. Fans can rewatch, or check out for the first time, the Season 2 premiere, titled “00: 42: 30,” during the show’s usual time slot of 8 p.m. EST.

“Chastain Memorial Hospital suffers a blackout that requires the staff to treat their patients without the help of any technology,” the episode synopsis shares. “Bell orders the staff to stop accepting new patients and transfer those on life support, but when a child in need is rushed to the ER, Conrad and Devon go against the mandate. Meanwhile, Mina and Austin are tasked with performing heart surgery on a premature baby, despite the lack of power, and Nic works to organize the staff and patients.”
