Jeannie Mai announced that she will be leaving “Dancing With the Stars” after she was hospitalized and diagnosed with epiglottitis.

The potentially life-threatening condition occurs when the protective tissue surrounding the windpipe becomes inflamed and causes swelling in the lungs, according to the Mayo Clinic.

On Monday, the 41-year-old announced she would be leaving the ABC dancing competition. “My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery,” Mai said in a statement to “Good Morning America.”

“I am heartbroken that my ‘DWTS’ journey has to end here. I have pushed myself to new limits, physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come.”

Mai was partnered with Brandon Armstrong during Season 29 of the series. In a statement to People, “The Real” co-host praised Armstrong and sent well wishes to the remaining cast members.

“I can’t thank my partner Brandon enough for being so supportive and believing in me. I also want to thank MAI fans who voted every week, and I wish everyone else in the competition the best of luck!” Mai said.

The duo started off strong in the competition but landed in the bottom two last week during the “DWTS” Halloween-themed episode.

Now that Mai is no longer competing on the show, ABC will abandon the plan for a double elimination for the upcoming Monday night episode.

Instead, there will only be a single elimination for the remaining eight couples.

The “Dancing With the Stars” Twitter account confirmed Mai’s exit and wished her well amid her health issues.

“Jeannie Mai will not be able to continue to compete on #DWTS this season due to a health concern that requires immediate attention,” the tweet read.

“Jeannie has inspired us, along with millions of fans, with her energy and dedication. We wish her a full and speedy recovery.”
