Justin Bieber is getting candid about his emotional journey and how embracing spirituality in his life changed him.

During a new interview with Apple Music's Ebro Darden, the 28-year-old singer revealed that he struggled after realizing that his marriage to wife Hailey Baldwin wouldn't instantly solve his personal issues and make him a better person.

"It's a journey. I remember when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage was going to fix all my problems and it didn't," Bieber told the radio host in a clip shared with People Monday. "It just kind of was a reflection of like, man, you're a bit of a hypocrite man."

The "Yummy" singer said that he had been a hypocrite by expecting Baldwin to "do something" that he was not doing, which he said ultimately encouraged him to do some self-reflection.

"You want your wife to do something that you're not doing and it's like, it's hard sometimes to look in the mirror and really have to realize, man, maybe you're not the person that you necessarily thought that you were," he explained. "And that's just a result of trauma and life circumstances."

Bieber credits his faith and spirituality with helping him address his past and become a better husband.

He said his "relationship with Jesus" helped him to "not be so hard on" himself, adding: "Just the idea that I'm forgiven and that he's walking me through this journey and day by day, I get to just get better and better and not be too hard on myself."

The "Sorry" crooner also shared that he believes forming a strong relationship with God would give people hope and help them get back up again no matter what they're going through.

"When you can have a perspective that God is not an angry dude, he is a loving, considerate, compassionate God who knows what we're going through and just wants us to be the best versions of ourselves. And so that for me in that perspective has really changed everything, man," Bieber continued.

Bieber and the model tied the knot at a New York City courthouse in September 2018, just two months after getting engaged in the Bahamas that July.

In a frank essay shared on Instagram in 2019, the Canadian singer confessed to doing "pretty heavy drugs" by 19 and said that he "abused" all his relationships as he discussed the trappings of fame and the challenges of navigating life as a former child star.

Bieber admitted that he became resentful, angry and disrespectful to women at one point. He also said he felt distant from those who loved him and thought he could never find his way around.

"I made every bad decision you could have thought of and went from one of the most loved and adored people in the world to the most ridiculed, judged and hated person in the world," he wrote of his journey as a pop star.

But Bieber, who was 25 at the time, said he managed to bounce back and fix broken relationships thanks to religion, his support network and his marriage to Baldwin.

Now, Bieber is working on a new album to follow 2021's "Justice."

"I don't think there's a date yet, but I do know that we're wrapping it up," he said during the Apple Music interview, per Billboard. "It's almost done. It sounds really good. I'm really excited about it. I got a lot of cool features and yeah, it should be dropping not too long from now."
