Prince Philip has reportedly broken a major royal family travel rule more than once.

For decades, members of the British royal family have been prohibited from traveling to Israel. The foreign office said that the ban was necessary and acted as disapproval of Israel’s policies.

Back in 1994, the Independent reported that foreign office feared that allowing the royals to travel to Israel could be seen as condoning the occupation of the Arab sector which the United Kingdom has deemed illegal.

But despite the ban, Prince Philip still flew to Israel in 1994 to attend a ceremony honoring his late mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. The dad of four was allowed entry into Israel because his trip was considered personal and not official.

Prince Philip traveling to Israel meant that other members of the royal family may now also travel to the country. Three years ago, Prince Charles also flew to Israel to attend the funeral of former president Shimon Peres.

At that time, the British government also made it clear that Prince Charles’ trip to Israel was personal and not official or another royal family.

And last year, Prince William also traveled to Israel to meet up with prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Kensington Palace confirmed that the Duke of Cambridge’s trip to Israel was official, and it pushed through due to Queen Elizabeth’s request.

Prince William also visited Jordan and Palestine during his trip. According to Express, the relationship between Israel and the United Kingdom improved because of the UK’s prime minister Theresa May.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip also made headlines recently after he was photographed outside Balmoral with his only daughter, Princess Anne. In the photo, the dad of four looks unhappy and frail while walking with Princess Royal.

The Duke of Edinburgh is already 98 years old, and he has been retired from his royal duties for the past two years. But every now and then, he is photographed outdoors with his horses or his family.
