Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly not as tactile as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle because they do not need it.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge rarely hold hands in public that whenever they do, everyone notices it. On the other hand, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very clingy towards each other when they are out and about even during official business.

According to body language expert Judi James, touches are not only used to show affection, but they are also used as a method to communicate. For instance, when you’re at a party and want your partner to know you have to leave, you can squeeze his hand to send a message that he should hurry up. But Prince William and Middleton know each other so well that they don’t have to touch each other to know what the other one was thinking, according to the expert.

“Kate and William don’t need to be so tactile because they almost grew up together – they went to university together and they had lived together,” James said.

On the other hand, she felt that Prince Harry and Markle don’t know each other that much, so they need to touch each other to connect. James also noted how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex join their fingers either in a full clasp or mesh it to get their hands even closer.

“She is using all of this very flattering and flirty eye contact with him and they can’t not touch one another and when they do it is those sort of nudges,” James said about Markle.

Another body language expert, Robin Kermode, has the same opinion about Prince William and Middleton rarely holding hands in public. He agreed that this boils down to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s closeness.

“It is very clear that William and Kate are emotionally close, however, they do not seem to feel the need to prove their love – particularly when on official state business,” Kermode said.

Although not as tactile as Prince Harry and Markle, there were also times when Prince William and Middleton couldn’t help but touch each other. For instance, the couple was spotted holding hands when they watched the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Prince William and Middleton also delighted their fans when they held each other's hands on their way to church to attend the royals’ traditional Christmas morning service in 2017. However, they didn’t repeat the same sweet gesture last holiday.
