Tesla’s latest vehicle, the Model Y, is said to have a panoramic glass roof as part of its unique features. While it does offer a fresh take on vehicle roof views, Tesla’s innovation might not be a great idea this time around. Here’s why the new Tesla Model Y panoramic glass roof is a bad idea.

As seen on Youtube user karlos peres’ video of the panoramic glass roof of the Tesla Model Y, the crossover SUV’s sunroof shows that almost 80 percent of the Model Y’s ceiling is made out of glass. The sunroof view shows the sky in full and allows passengers to enjoy a beautiful view while driving.

However, this design opens up a whole new set of heating problems for the vehicle, which would make the ride uncomfortable for the passengers.

When left alone in the open, such as parking spaces, the panoramic glass roof does little to protect the vehicle from accumulating heat inside. Since the glass roof has no way to innately negate the heat, Tesla Model Y users will have to solve it themselves, which can be a chore to do.

Car owners would have take some time to cool off the vehicle first before riding it to avoid the massive discomfort of sitting on a scorching seat with unpleasant hot air inside an enclosed space.

According to MotoringBox, sun roofs do little to prevent rising temperatures inside a vehicle and actually heat up the car faster when left in broad daylight.

Meanwhile, driving with the panoramic sunroof under the scorching sun may also make traveling really uncomfortable for the riders. Depending on how hot the weather can be in their area, traveling at the around noon would be impossible as the sunroof would continually expose the passengers to direct sunlight.

Moreover, the air conditioning unit would also be stressed out while attempting to combat the heat from the sun. Lastly, the heat would also increase if the users plan to fill all seven seats of the vehicle with paseengers.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see if Tesla plans to provide add-ons to the Model Y to prevent heating issues and other problems brought about by the panoramic sunroof.
