Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy is undoubtedly one of the best trilogies of all time. The way he re-invented Batman with his vision was really commendable. But, was it always meant to be a trilogy? Actor Christian Bale is spilling out some specific details about the highly-successful franchise.

Speaking with Toronto Sun, the 45-year-old actor revealed that the franchise was never meant to be a trilogy while they were making them and shared the reason why there was never a fourth “Dark Knight” movie.

Bale shared that the good thing about Nolan is that he only thinks about one movie at a time. So when they were making “Batman Begins,” they knew that they had to reinvent the comic book character for the big screen. The Academy Award-winning actor further stated that people would “laugh” at him when he told them that he was doing a Batman movie.

“I think that the reason it [Batman Begins] worked was first and foremost Chris’ take on it,” Bale explained.

According to Bale, the whole crew was never arrogant to assume that they had an opportunity to make a second movie. Nolan always believed that he is making one film and this is all he has got to impress the audiences. But Bale admitted that he was quite surprised when Warner Bros. came up to them and asked them to make another one.

Bale insisted that “The Dark Knight” films only became a trilogy when Warner Bros. came and said, “Okay, let’s do the third one.”

The “Vice” star concluded by saying that they said no to the fourth one because it was Nolan’s dream to end the series on a high note and he believed that “The Dark Knight Series” was a fitting end to the saga.

The movies went on to become gigantic hits and revived the legacy of the caped crusader on the silver screen. The three movies — “Batman Begins” (2005), “The Dark Knight” (2008) and “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012) — accumulated more than $2 billion at the global box office. “The Dark Knight” is still the highest-rated superhero movie ever on IMDb. It has a score of 9 out of 10.

In related news, Bale recently shared that he is done with such constant weight fluctuations and will no longer be making these drastic changes in his upcoming movies. The Academy Award-winning actor lost over 70 pounds to play a race car driver Ken Miles in the movie “Ford v Ferrari.”

“Ford v Ferrari” chronicles the journey of American car designer Carroll Shellby (Matt Damon) and driver Ken Miles (Bale) who were brought together by Ford Motors to challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

The movie received rave reviews from critics around the world on the day of its premiere. The movie currently has a 92 percent score on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

The cast of “Ford v Ferrari” includes Bale and Damon in lead roles, along with Caitriona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Noah Jupe, Josh Lucas and Tracy Letts in supporting roles.
