“Wynonna Earp” was renewed by Syfy for Season 4, but that hasn’t stopped fans from being concerned. The showrunner and cast members have started using the hashtag #FightForWynonna, but what exactly are they fighting for?

It turns out that the trouble isn’t with the network. Syfy is still very happy with the show, but the studio has run into some funding issues. Vulture reports that IDW Entertainment, which serves as the studio for the supernatural western, is the root of the problem.

IDW keeps pushing back the Season 4 production start date. Instead of starting in December, they pushed the date back to mid-February, but that date was missed as well. The “Wynonna Earp” cast and crew don’t know when they’re returning to work, which is part of why they’re supporting this campaign.

The studio has been taking out loans to cover the costs of their TV shows, which also include “Locke & Key,” “October Faction” and “V-Wars,” all of which are being made for Netflix. Their public filing revealed that Syfy actually ordered “Wynonna Earp” Seasons 4 and 5. Syfy’s licensing fees only pay for about half the cost of making the show.

After fans managed to make “Wynonna Earp” trend worldwide on Twitter, the company tried to soothe fans worried about cancellation in a statement. “We are committed to continuing the Wynonna Earp legacy and will share new details very soon!” IDW Entertainment tweeted. “Thank you for your support! We appreciate all of the fans who have asked how they can help. We encourage everyone to continue to rally behind the series, and stay tuned for what’s next.”

However, that didn’t seem to calm the cast and crew. Showrunner Emily Andras implied that communication with the studio has not been great. In a tweet, she seemed surprised to find IDW’s financial statement revealed “Wynonna Earp” has been picked up for not just one but two more seasons.

Though Andras deleted a tweet from last week asking fans if they were ready to fight for the show, another hinted that she is still worried about cancellation.

The Earpers have been sending their message to IDW loud and clear. Andras and the stars of “Wynonna Earp” have been thanking the fans for their vocal support.

Fans are still using the hashtags #FightForWynonna and #SaveWynonnaEarp on Twitter. They’re also binge-watching on Netflix to make it clear that the show still has an active audience and writing letters to IDW to support the show.
