“Princess Diaries” star Anne Hathaway is currently in talks to headline Sony’s upcoming “Barbie” movie.

According to Deadline, the actress’ name was linked to project shortly after Amy Schumer announced her exit in March. The upcoming “Barbie” movie is set to be released by Sony and Mattel sometime next year.

Mattel’s President and COO Richard Dickson will serve as executive producer. He was also the one responsible for modernizing the Barbie brand over the past two years. The film is being produced by Walter Parkes and Lori MacDonald, alongside former Sony studio chairman Amy Pascal.

If a deal between Sony and Hathaway will be finalized, the award-winning actress will give life to the role of the famous doll, Barbie. The main character gets kicked out from Barbieland for not being perfect and will go on an adventure in the outside world. When she tries to return to Barbieland to save it, Barbie realizes that there’s no such thing as perfection and what’s important is what’s on the inside.

In March, Schumer said that she will no longer be attached to the “Barbie” project due to schedule conflicts. The actress also released a statement, saying, “The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but I look forward to seeing ‘Barbie’ on the big screen.”

Shortly after announcing her exit, the comedian was linked to the upcoming film, “She Came to Me.”

Meanwhile, Hathaway was last seen in the indie film, “Colossal.” She is also set to star in “Ocean’s 8” with Sarah Paulson and Rihanna. In addition, Hathaway will co-star with Rebel Wilson in “Nasty Women,” MGM’s remake of “Dirty Rotten Soundrels.” The actress is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. As of late, Hathaway’s schedule is packed so it is unclear if she could accommodate another big screen project.

Hathaway also starred in “Love & Other Drugs” in 2010 alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. In 2012, the actress appeared in “Les Miserables” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” Two years later, Hathaway played the role of Brand in Christopher Nolan’s film, “Interstellar.”
