‘Gypsy’
Will Jean Holloway’s (Naomi Watts) story continue in “Gypsy” Season 2? Netflix

Fans of “Gypsy” may have something to rejoice about!

After its release last month, the Naomi Watts-starrer drew in a slew of mixed reactions from viewers and critics. But series creator and writer Lisa Rubin said that these criticisms could impact the direction for Season 2, implying that there is a chance it could get the green light. Even though Netflix hasn’t announced the renewal for “Gypsy,” Rubin shared that she already has some ideas for the upcoming episodes.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, she said that Season 2 will be more of a thriller compared to Season 1. “The last few episodes of Season 1 are more intense because our commitment was to it being a slow burn. Those first five episodes are about immersing yourself in Jean’s world… I’m surprised at how many people are with Jean despite what she’s doing, which is part of what I wanted… it sets us up for a Season 2. We’re fully in. A lot is happening. Obviously, there’s a lot more escalation. In those ways, it will potentially answer critics,” she said.

When asked about when exactly will fans find out if Season 2 is a go, Rubin said that it will happen in the next couple of weeks. The creator added that discussions are very much on the table at the moment.

On the other hand, there’s also a possibility that “Gypsy” would end with Season 1, episode 10. If this is the case, fans will be left with a huge cliffhanger. Rubin said that Season 1 was meant to leave Jean Holloway’s (Watts) story a mystery, regardless of whether or not there will be a renewal.

Meanwhile, Rubin also talked about Sidney (Sophie Cookson). According to her, Sidney will most likely get an entire episode in Season 2 that is told from her perspective. In Season 1, Sidney discovered that Jean isn’t who she claims to be very quickly. In episode 2, they both signed a contract admitting to each other that they are both liars. “It’s almost a turn-on, realizing how similar they are,” Rubin said.

“Gypsy” currently streams all 10 episodes on Netflix.
