A woman was found living with the decomposed bodies of her mother and sister for over two months. The incident took place in Ayodhya, a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Police officers were called to the house Thursday after neighbors complained of a strong, foul smell. The officers broke open the door and entered the house to find a woman along with two decomposed bodies inside. The woman was identified as Deepa Srivastava.

Local reports said the woman’s father, a former magistrate, had died in 1990 and that she lived with her mother and three sisters. One of the sisters had died a few years after the father’s death. Following the death of the sister, the other two reportedly became mentally unstable and almost stopped interacting with their neighbors.

Police also said the dead bodies of the woman’s mother and sister had decomposed to the bones. This helped the officers determine that the deaths took place at least two months ago.

The cause of death was unknown and the bodies were sent for a post-mortem. The woman was sent for a medical checkup, after which she will be sent to an asylum or shelter based on the result. The investigation was underway.
