A woman killed her three-year-old and herself after her husband refused to let her work. The incident took place in the Indian state of Haryana on Monday.

According to local reports, the unidentified 23-year-old woman got married to a man from a well-to-do family five years ago. On Sunday, the woman informed her husband that she got an offer to join a government job. However, he refused to let her take up the job. Upset over this, the woman killed her son before hanging herself at her home Monday.

Confirming the same, the woman’s father-in-law said, “She had cleared the exam for a clerical job in the Haryana government, but my son did not allow her to join.”

“We came to know about the matter on Monday night when my son saw the bodies of his wife and son hanging from a ceiling fan,” he added.

Police were investigating the incident.

“We have recorded the statements of her family members. The woman did not leave any suicide note behind,” a police officer said.

The incident comes a few months after a woman in the southern Indian state of Telangana killed her two young sons and herself following harassment by her husband. The woman and her husband were supposed to attend a counseling session after she filed a domestic violence complaint against him. She, however, stayed back at home and killed her children by poisoning before killing herself.
