A woman killed her four-year-old daughter following an argument with her husband. The incident took place in Gorakhpur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning.

Police said the accused, identified as 30-year-old Pushpa Nishad, was annoyed with her husband, 32-year-old Jitendra Nishad, as he gave a part of his salary to his mother, who lived in the same village with her three other sons. On Saturday morning, the couple got into an argument regarding the same after which Jitendra left for work.

While at work, Jitendra received a call from his neighbor saying that Pushpa was beating their daughter. However, by the time he reached home, his daughter was already dead. Following a complaint, Pushpa was taken into custody and charged with murder.

"Prima facie, it appears the woman throttled her daughter because she was annoyed with her husband and in-laws. Investigation is on,” police said, adding that the body of the victim was sent for autopsy.

Pushpa and Jitendra were married for eight years. The couple also has a seven-year-old son, who was at his grandmother’s house when the incident took place.

In a similar incident in the Indian state of West Bengal in June, a man killed his three-and-a-half-month-old daughter during an argument with his wife. Seikh Raju, 25, was upset ever since his wife gave birth to the girl. On the day of the incident, he reached home drunk and picked up a fight with his wife. He then noticed his daughter playing on the bed and approached her before throwing her to the ground repeatedly and disfiguring her face.

“We found that he had willfully murdered his minor daughter Sultani Khatoon. His wife put up resistance, but was beaten up,” a police officer said, adding that the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. Raju was taken into custody following a complaint filed by his wife.
