A woman and two men were arrested Saturday in connection with the sexual assault of her three-year-old daughter in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The child was sexually assaulted for 10 days with the consent of the woman.

The woman and her child went missing March 14 and two days later, the woman’s husband filed a missing report at the police station. The police then contacted the woman’s parents and found out that the two hadn’t reached her parents' home.

The woman and her daughter returned home March 26 and two days later the girl fell ill and was admitted to a government hospital.

“After examining the child, the doctor found that the girl was sexually abused and informed the police,” a police officer told local daily the Times of India.

During police interrogation, the woman, married to a man from Tamil Nadu, confessed that she had gone to another state to meet her boyfriend along with another relative. The two men sexually assaulted the girl with her consent for 10 days after which she returned home. The trio was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act and remained in custody. The investigation was ongoing.

In a similar incident in March, a Texas woman was taken into custody for allowing a man to sexually assault her five-year-old daughter for $400. The incidents took place between 2017 and 2019. During police interrogation, 36-year-old Shirley Harmon admitted to allowing 62-year-old Gary Landreth to inappropriately touch the child. She also told police that she allowed the man to meet her daughter despite the child telling her several times that the man hurt her. Harmon said she got $400 to let Landreth meet the girl. Both of them were charged with “felony aggravated sexual assault of a child.”
