A 28-year-old woman in Illinois fatally shot a man after he refused to kiss her and instead asked his girlfriend for a kiss while the three were drinking together, prosecutors said at her Saturday bond hearing.

Claudia Resendiz-Flores had recently moved in with the victim and his girlfriend at the couple's apartment in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, the Chicago Sun-Times reported, citing prosecutors and Rolling Meadows police.

The three were hanging out and drinking at the apartment Thursday night when Resendiz-Flores asked the victim, 29-year-old James Jones, for a kiss. But Jones refused and instead turned to his girlfriend, whose identity was not released, and asked for a smooch, prosecutors said.

Resendiz-Flores became jealous and demanded that Jones kiss her, according to prosecutors.

When Jones refused her for the second time, Resendiz-Flores took his gun, which was tucked between couch cushions, and aimed it at him, prosecutors said.

After seeing Resendiz-Flores take the safety off, Jones tried to push the gun down. She then lifted her arms and fatally shot the victim in the chest, prosecutors said.

Jones’ girlfriend immediately called 911. Responding officers arrived at the home soon after and discovered the lifeless body of Jones, WGN-TV reported.

Police also found the handgun in the living room, prosecutors said.

Resendiz-Flores admitted to shooting Jones and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder.

During Resendiz-Flores' bond hearing Saturday, assistant public defender Courtney Smallwood disputed the claim that the suspect had been living with the couple and said her client lived at her family’s home in Des Plaines, Illinois.

Resendiz-Flores is reportedly married but separated from her husband. She has three kids, all of whom she is raising by herself, Smallwood said.

The judge ordered Resendiz-Flores held without bail Saturday. She is scheduled to make another court appearance Tuesday.
