A woman, upset over the death of her 20-year-old son by suicide, killed herself in India by jumping in front of a speeding car. The tragic incident took place Tuesday in front of the hospital where the young man’s body was brought.

Police identified the victim as Leelavathi Gowda, hailing from the Indian city of Bengaluru, The Deccan Herald reported. Her son, Mohan Gowda, had hanged himself to death earlier in the day.

The series of incidents that led to the two deaths happened Tuesday morning over a missing motorcycle. According to police, Mohan, an undergraduate student, had left for his college early morning to appear for an exam. He returned a few hours later, followed by a few friends. They entered into an argument over a missing motorcycle, with friends accusing Mohan of stealing it.

Mohan, offended by the accusations, barged into his room and locked himself up. Though his mother repeatedly begged him to unlock the door, he refused. Mohan's father immediately alerted police, the report said.

Officers who rushed to the residence found Mohan hanging from the ceiling. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Leelavathi turned hysterical on receiving the news of her son's death and ran onto the busy road in front of the hospital where Mohan's body was kept. However, her relatives managed to stop her and bring her back the first time.

But, she refused to calm down and ran back onto the road, before jumping in front of a speeding car. Though her relatives rushed her to a hospital, she couldn’t be saved, The Hindu reported.

Police have registered two separate cases. While a case of unnatural death has been registered over Mohan's death, the driver of the car that mowed down Leelavathi faces charges of rash and negligent driving.

A police investigation revealed later that Mohan did not steal the motorcycle, but he had links with a robbery gang.

In a similar tragic incident in Israel, an 88-year-old father took his own life over the grave of his son who died in 2014.

The body of Moshe Etzion was found over the grave of his son Zevik on the anniversary of the latter's death. Police said the elderly man left his home in Negev region's Nirim community in the morning but had not reappeared hours later, prompting the search that led authorities to Zevik's grave.
