A Nevada woman who was accused of punching a 6-year-old Asian American boy and spewing racial slurs at his family last week has been arrested and charged with a hate crime.

The woman, identified as Shelly Hill, is facing additional charges of battery and bias crime, AsAm News reported, citing Clark County Detention Centre.

The incident took place at the upscale shopping mall The Shops at Crystals, located in the CityCenter complex, Las Vegas, on July 5. The mother of the victim, who asked to be identified only as her TikTok handle @uhmmajo, filmed the woman's racist tirade. She posted the video on social media and it quickly shot to viral fame.

The video appeared to have begun after the alleged attack on the boy. The woman could be heard shouting in the video and even yelling "China" at some point. She walked away after her rant, with a mall security guard escorting her.

"This woman attacked my son. She punched my 6-year-old while yelling racist, anti-Asian things," the victim's mother wrote in the caption. The mother alleged in the video that cops let the woman go without accosting her for the alleged attack. She said she would press charges against Hill.

"She was yelling things like 'I know what you people do. You people eat your children. It's your fault," the victim's mother told AsAm News.

After the attacker left the scene, the mother showed the video to Las Vegas Police and cops reportedly recognized her as the same woman who earlier harassed a Hispanic family and spat on a man.

According to the mother, her son was left traumatized after the attack and Hill's arrest brought her some relief.

"I don't want her near any children. She could have done more damage when she hit my son. Especially while saying racial slurs," the victim's mother added.

The mother said she had received a barrage of victim-blaming comments from fellow internet users after posting the video. "People said things like 'What a bad mother, filming this instead of beating her up,' etc. Honestly, those types of comments are not constructive and need to stop. The video is literally the reason she was identified and is being charged," Yahoo News quoted her as saying.

Hill, who is scheduled to make her first court appearance Sunday, has been held on $3,000 bail.
