KEY POINTS

  • Xbox Summer Game Fest will offer over 60 early demos of games for people to try for free from July 21 to July 27
  • These will be early versions of games, equivalent to "show floor demos" that are a long way from being finished products
  • Xbox is encouraging feedback for their developers once the games are tried out, whether positive or expressing criticism

Xbox Summer Game Fest is debuting over 60 brand-new game demos for people to try on the Xbox One from July 21 to July 27.

Recognizing the love that gamers have when attending a marquee gaming event, a post on the Xbox Wire blog noted that above and beyond the spectacle of these shows is the chance that people get to get their hands on lots of games. Specifically, getting to try the games early while also discovering new games.

With that in mind, over 60 new game demos for upcoming, unreleased Xbox games will be available to try at the Summer Game Fest for free. Just look for the special Game Fest Demo tile on the Xbox One Dashboard during that week to find the collection of available demos.

The post stressed, however, that there are a few things different about these demos. The majority of these game demos are early, while some won’t be out for quite some time. “We’ve never done this before; what that means is that you’ll get to experience these games early – some way early – which is awesome, but you should also note that these games will continue to evolve and be polished as they near release,” the Xbox Wire post said.

Think of them more like “show floor demos” in that these will not necessarily be indicative of what the final product will be. A very early view into what a game will look like seems like an exciting, if not outright interesting, prospect.

Another thing to remember is that these games will only be up on the Xbox Dashboard for one week, during the duration of the Summer Game Fest. “ Some might be re-published to the Demo channel later, but many will simply evaporate at the end of the week, so make sure to check them out while you can,” said the post on Xbox Wire.

As early demos, the developers will be more than willing to receive feedback from gamers, both good and bad. The Xbox blog post is encouraging the audience to reach out to the developers on social media to tell them if they love the games or if they have some criticisms that they would like to express.

A full list of the 60+ titles will be revealed as July 21 draws near, but this early, games that have been announced include “Cris Tales,” “Destroy All Humans!” “Haven,” “Hellpoint,” Skatebird,” “The Vale: Shadow of the Crown,” “Raji: An Ancient Epic,” and “Welcome to Elk.”
