A 52-year-old babysitter was convicted to 11 years in prison for attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl who was saved by her older sibling.

The accused, identified as 52-year-old James Boyesha, from Radcliffe in England, was babysitting the siblings at their house when the incident took place. Boyesha had lied to the 11-year-old boy about going to the washroom but had instead gone upstairs. The boy, who was downstairs at the time, became suspicious as the babysitter didn't return for nearly half an hour.

He then decided to go upstairs to look for the babysitter and found the accused on top of his 10-year-old sister, who had reportedly been stripped naked from the waist down.

The 11-year-old had recognized the danger and had immediately called his mother for help, ignoring the threats from Boyesha, who tried to force him into lying about the incident. After receiving the phone call, the mother arrived at their house and reproached the accused.

The police were informed about the incident in 2019. Following the incident, Boyesha was arrested and has jailed for 11 years. He pleaded guilty a week before his trial and had confessed to rape and attempted rape on the day of his trial.

The 10-year-old later opened up to police officers and told them that he had previously assaulted her sexually under similar circumstances. However, Boyesha persuaded her to stay quiet by threatening to hurt her mother if she told anyone about it.

According to the court trails, he had previously been acquitted of assaulting another child, aged six, in 2014.

During the trial at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, the judge praised the boy for his courage.

“Thank goodness for the actions of the brother. He was a courageous young man who did his best to save his sister from your clutches,” said Judge Tania Griffiths QC while adding, “He was a brave young man and he was the adult showing responsibility, the sort of responsibility and care to his sister you should have shown. This was a disgraceful incident and you should be ashamed.”

“These were disgusting incidents – Bosheya satisfied his perverted sexual desires by targeting an innocent young girl. Bolshaya is now a convicted pedophile who is going to serve a long custodial sentence. The family are relieved that this ordeal is over, however it may have a lifelong impact on the victim,” said Detective Constable Craig Bowring, of Greater Manchester Police.
