Several inmates of a Washington jail escaped Monday evening, prompting the police to launch a manhunt.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office said they captured at least 6 out of the 12 escapees and brought them back in prison. Authorities have released the identities of the others with their pictures in a Facebook post. “12 inmates from Annex C in the Yakima County Jail escaped the jail. 6 of the inmates were captured and are back at the jail. The other 6 inmates are currently on the loose. The inmates were able to escape by breaking open an exterior fire door using a table from inside the Annex,” the post read.

Authorities sought public help in tracking down the six others. “If anyone has information on where we can find these 6 escapees, please call the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office at (509)574-2500 and press 0 or 911,” they said in the statement.

The City of Yakima urged the residents to stay indoors and report any suspicious activity. “ALERT! Several prisoners have escaped from the Yakima County Jail in Downtown Yakima. Residents in the northeast and southeast areas of Yakima should call 9-1-1 to report any suspicious activity. Those residents should also stay indoors,” the city administration earlier said on Facebook.

Yakima Police Department described the clothing that the escapees had on. They reportedly busted out at around 7:10 p.m. EST.

This is a developing story.
