Two students and an adult were injured in gunfire that erupted Wednesday afternoon outside a charter school in Brooklyn.

Authorities responded to the Williamsburg Charter High School at 198 Varet Street in Williamsburg at around 2 p.m. ET after reports about the shooting. The NYPD said the injured persons included a 15-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy, and a 37-year-old man, who worked as the school's security guard, New York Daily News reported.

Rounds were fired by a person after a fight involving 15 young males at the intersection of Varet and White streets turned violent, WABC reported. The shooter ran off from the spot and hasn't been arrested yet.

A search is on for the suspect.

The incident happened just after school hours were over. Elizabeth Caldera, a parent who was waiting outside the school to pick up her son, told WABC that she heard at least three to four gunshots.

"It sounded like fireworks, like popping sounds pop, pop, pop, three or four times," she said.

"All of a sudden a group of kids came out of the school walking fast," Caldera told NY Daily News, while describing the horrific scene. "The security guard shooed them away," adding at least one person in the warring group brandished what seemed like a "log or pipe" in the middle of the fight.

"I had to drag my kid out of the school in tears," she said.

NYPD authorities pointed out that one stick was used in the middle of the fight, but there were no reports about someone seeking medical attention for getting struck by a stick.

The security guard was grazed in the neck, the 15-year-old girl was shot in the thigh and the 17-year-old boy was scraped in the thigh. All the victims were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The reason why the brawl broke out or if the injured students were part of the fight remains a mystery.

The shooting reportedly plunged the school into lockdown for over an hour.

The school administrators released a statement vowing to cooperate with the investigation.
