2-Year-Old Kidnapped While Sleeping With Parents, Raped By Father's Friend: Cops

A toddler in India was kidnapped while she was sleeping with her parents and raped by her father's friend, reports said.

The brutal assault happened in Indore, a city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday night. The unidentified 2-year-old girl was abducted while she was sleeping with her parents in a small shack home, The Times of India reported.

The suspect, identified as Dinesh Dabur, took the toddler in a truck around 2 miles away from her home and sexually assaulted her. He then abandoned the child, who was later rescued after cops spotted her sitting on the side of a road, bleeding and crying profusely, the outlet reported.

The child suffered severe bruises and underwent surgery. She was reported to be in stable condition Thursday evening.

"The accused who committed the heinous crime has been arrested. There is zero tolerance against such people. We will recommend a fast trial in the case," senior investigating officer Harinarayanachari Mishra was quoted as saying by the daily.

The investigation began after the child's mother got up from her sleep and realized the toddler was missing. The parents then frantically searched for the child but could not find her and reported the matter to the police.

The cops examined surveillance footage in the area where the child was located and saw a truck coming and leaving the place. The victim's father soon identified the vehicle as his friend's truck, and cops traced the suspect who was taken into custody.

"The accused has told police that he had decided to abduct the minor during his visit to the family on Wednesday evening. He opened the gates of the makeshift house, went in and picked up the child from between her parents. Since the girl knew him, she did not say anything," the investigating officer added.

Dabur faces multiple charges including kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor, NBS News reported.

In a similar case of abduction and rape last year, a 2-year-old girl from southern Egypt was murdered after her two cousins kidnapped her from home. The unidentified suspects admitted that they murdered the toddler after she resisted the sexual assault and dumped the body in a drain.
